Where the Forest and Cosmos Meet

Optical Astronomy Night at Calaveras Big Trees State Park

Step away from the city’s glow and into the ancient dark. Nestled in Calaveras Big Trees State Park, our Optical Astronomy Night series offers a stellar stargazing experience under the skies in the Sierra Nevada.

Our knowledgeable docent-volunteer astronomers set up powerful telescopes and guide you through the night sky — from the craters of the Moon to star clusters and deep-sky objects. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or picking up a telescope eyepiece for the very first time, this is a family-friendly program you won’t want to miss.

Bring a chair, a warm blanket, and your curiosity. We’ll show you the universe.
