There are many docent opportunities at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.   We are looking for people who love the park, love nature and love to work with people (or not).

We have a great community of people at Calaveras Big Trees who are dedicated to enhancing every visitor’s experience. Docents help to maintain the hiking trails; conduct guided hikes; work in the visitor center; assist with park events and fundraisers, and work with young people in our many children’s programs. There is something for everyone!

Park docents are constantly learning. You will be trained in whichever volunteer opportunity you choose. As a docent, you will be invited to regular docent meetings and CBTA seminars that are scheduled throughout the year. You also have access to our fabulous docent library.

Are you interested?

  1. Send an email to mara.naber@parks.ca.gov or call 209-795-7980 and let us know of your interest.
  2. Fill out an application form. You will be sent a link, in March, to our online registration system where you can do this.
  3. Plan on attending our Potential Docent Open House on March 28th from noon to 2pm in Jack Knight Hall. Here you can learn about most of our docent volunteer opportunities and meet docents who work in these areas. Get your questions answered. This is optional but we have found it very helpful for incoming docents to make connections.
  4. Attend a mandatory orientation day. We will have two sessions you can choose from – April 3 or April 4 in the classroom, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

We look forward to meeting you.
