SUMMARY:Health & Wellness Day
DESCRIPTION:·        9:30am – Guided Lava Bluffs Trail Hike \nMeet at the Lava Bluffs Trailhead. This moderate to strenuous 2.5 mile trail will take the group through varied environments and across a volcanic formation with a chance of spotting wildflowers.  There are many steep sections along this trail\, including some with difficult footing. Long pants and sturdy shoes are advised. Allow 2–3 hours and bring plenty of water. \n·         9:30am – Fido on a Fire Road \nMeet at Jack Knight Hall for an approximately 2 mile hike on a park fire road to the Scenic Overlook. While dogs are not allowed on trails in the park\, they are allowed on fire roads. There are a number of great fire roads throughout the park. All dogs must be on a 6ft maximum leash\, well-behaved and under your control at all times.  Please bring water and waste bags for your pet. \n·         11:30am – Guided Three Senses Trail Hike \nMeet at the Big Stump and enjoy an accessible guided hike of the 800ft Three Senses Trail.  This hike focuses on the senses of hearing\, touching and smelling. Please allow for 45 mins. \n          2:00 pm – Nature Journaling \n           You don’t have to hike to enjoy nature. During this guided exercise\, you learn how to focus your mind and appreciate the detail of the forest community.  The creation of a nature journal allows for creativity and relaxation.

SUMMARY:Creek Critters
DESCRIPTION:Creek Critters is a time for exploring Beaver Creek\, looking for aquatic insects. Pairs of children\, wade into the clear\, shallow waters\, clutching plastic cups\, turning over rocks and searching intently. Then some child shrieks\, “Look what I found!” And then another calls out. Within 5 minutes\, the creek is filled with waders finding critters.\n\nCreek Critters is when children gallop out of the water\, head to the tables with cups full of critters\, and pour them into share tubs for everyone to see. Enthusiastic volunteers help with microscopes and magnifiers\, engaging the children in discovery. Sierra Guidebooks whip open\, and young ones become amateur entomologists as they try to identify what they’ve found.\nMeet at Beaver Creek Picnic Area and bring water\, snacks\, sun screen. Allow for construction on Highway 4 and travel time to Beaver Creek. \nJoin in the fun as you explore and find all the marvelous critters that live in the water. DESCRIPTION:March 25\, 2022 – ARNOLD\, Calif.— California State Parks is holding a town hall meeting April 7 at 6 p.m. at Calaveras Big Trees State Park to discuss forest management in the park. \nThe meeting will be held in-person\, as well as virtually\, to allow broad public participation. State Park’s Central Valley District’s Natural Resources Team will be sharing information regarding forest management plans\, wildfire preparation\, and protecting giant sequoias in the park. The team will also answer questions from the community. Safety protocols\, set by public health officials to mitigate the spread of COVID-19\, will be in effect. As such\, face coverings are recommended indoors regardless of vaccination status. \nWhat:     Community Town Hall Meeting \nProtecting Our Forests: A Discussion About Keeping the Forests Healthy Using Prescribed Burning and Other Forest Treatments within Calaveras Big Trees State Park \nWhen:    Thursday\, April 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. \nWhere:   Calaveras Big Trees State Park — Educational Resources Room (Ralston Classroom)\n1170 CA-4\, Arnold\, Ca 95223 \nOR Zoom.
