SUMMARY:Prescribed Burn Continues October 20\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:PRESCRIBED FIRE BURN HAS BEGUN AS OF THURSDAY OCTOBER 19\, 2023\n\nClosures: North Grove Trail\, Grove Overlook Trail\, and Three Senses Trail\n\n\n\n\nThe majority of the North Grove area will be closed through the weekend and until conditions favor reopening.\nThis includes the iconic North Grove Trail\, Grove Overlook Trail\, Three Senses Trail\, and a portion of the River Canyon Trail.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmber Sprock  \nPublic Information Office/ Marketing Director\namber.sprock.@parks.ca.gov\n(209) 540-6857\n___________________________________________________________________ \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe planned treatment will cover approximately 39 acres in the heart of the North Grove area of the state park. Visitors should expect significant closures during the prescribed burning\, including North Grove Trail\, Three Senses Trail\, and Grove Overlook Trail. Closures will remain in effect until conditions favor reopening. Smoke will remain in the area for some time after active firing has stopped. California State Parks has prepared the unit for treatment.\n\n\n\nThe protection and stewardship of the giant sequoia groves has been a department priority since the park’s creation in 1931. Prescribed burning is part of State Park’s program for vegetation management to increase the resilience of the forest and promote new giant sequoia growth. Forest management and prescribed fire help restore and maintain a complex forest community\, reduce hazardous fuel loads\, improve wildlife habitat\, restore nutrients to the soil\, protect park infrastructure\, and reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire.\n\n\n\nThis project is funded by the State of California through the Wildfire and Forest Resiliency Program (WFRP). WFRP expands on critical land management that California State Parks has been carrying out for decades and supports increasing the pace and scale of fuels treatments so that California’s State Park System can become an example of resilient ecosystems maintained through active stewardship.\n\n\n\nLearn more about prescribed fire at www.parks.ca.gov/bigtreesprescribedfire\n\n\n#bigtrees #castateparks #prescribedfire

SUMMARY:Creek Critters is Back!!
DESCRIPTION:This is Creek Critters\nEvery Tuesday and Saturday at 1pm throughout the summer\, dozens of excited children and their parents gather for Creek Critters.\n\nCreek Critters is a time for exploring Beaver Creek\, looking for aquatic insects. Pairs of children\, wade into the clear\, shallow waters\, clutching plastic cups\, turning over rocks and searching intently. Then some child shrieks\, “Look what I found!” And then another calls out. Within 5 minutes\, the creek is filled with waders finding critters.\n\nCreek Critters is when children gallop out of the water\, head to the tables with cups full of critters\, and pour them into share tubs for everyone to see. Enthusiastic volunteers help with microscopes and magnifiers\, engaging the children in discovery. Sierra Guidebooks whip open\, and young ones become amateur entomologists as they try to identify what they’ve found.\n\n\nJoin in the fun! \nMeet at Beaver Creek \nTuesday and Saturday  1pm

SUMMARY:Interpretive Master Plan Development
DESCRIPTION:Public Workshops\nPlanners from Riggs Ward Design\, working with California State Parks\, are holding two public workshops to hear input from the community on the education and interpretation at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. For questions or more information\, please contact Amber Sprock at (209) 540-6857 or amber.sprock@parks.ca.gov . \nIN-PERSON WORKSHOP \n\n\nJuly 12\, 2023      Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nLocation: Jack Knight Hall\, Calaveras Big Trees State Park\nVITRUAL WORKSHOP\n\nAugust 9\, 2023     Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nLink: August 9\, 2023 Zoom Meeting Link\n\nWhat is an interpretive master plan?\nAn Interpretation Master Plan takes a long-range approach to interpretation planning and may be developed for a unit\, sector\, or geographical region\, or may be used for particular resources found throughout the state. It updates and expands upon the General Plan and is intended to help guide park unit staff toward realizing its vision for interpretation. The Master Plan provides greater background and context\, while analyzing existing conditions and looking at opportunities and constraints for expanding interpretation and meeting visitor needs. A Master Plan offers recommendations for facilities\, media and programs\, with objectives and strategies that are in line with the park unit’s goals and guidelines. The Master Plan can be a stand-alone document or combined with an Action Plan. Master Plans may be used to request and attract funding for project-specific development. \nCalifornia State Park Master Plan Samples
