Closures will remain in effect until conditions favor reopening. Smoke will remain in the area for some time after active firing has stopped. California State Parks has prepared the unit for treatment.\n\n\n\nThe protection and stewardship of the giant sequoia groves has been a department priority since the park’s creation in 1931. Prescribed burning is part of State Park’s program for vegetation management to increase the resilience of the forest and promote new giant sequoia growth. Forest management and prescribed fire help restore and maintain a complex forest community\, reduce hazardous fuel loads\, improve wildlife habitat\, restore nutrients to the soil\, protect park infrastructure\, and reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire.\n\n\n\nThis project is funded by the State of California through the Wildfire and Forest Resiliency Program (WFRP). DESCRIPTION:There is a public town hall meeting scheduled for Calaveras Big Trees State Park in the Ralston Classroom located near the visitor center at 6 p.m. on Monday\, October 16\, 2023. The natural resource team will give an update on current and future forest management work at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The meeting will be facilitated in-person and for the best experience it is recommended people come in-person.\n\nTo provide for additional access\, the meeting will also be streamed live via Microsoft Teams.  People can use the following link to register in advance: https://events.gcc.teams.microsoft.com/event/95462f4f-8c64-4a23-af70-785f415b42b7@06fd3d24-6564-4801-8226-b407c4d26b68 .
