DESCRIPTION:Please stop by the Warming Hut located at the end of the main parking lot and enjoy a free warm drink and a roaring fire before or after your exploration of the Park. \nThe docents are happy to answer any and all of your questions. \nIf we get enough snow\, there would be a guided snow shoe walk that leaves from the Warming Hut at 1.  If there is no snow\, there is a regular guided walk every Saturday at 1 pm. \nPlease call 209-795-3840 for current conditions.

SUMMARY:Super Lunar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Don’t Miss the First Blue Supermoon Lunar Eclipse for 152 Years.   In the early hours of January 31\, the moon will do something it hasn’t since 1866. A supermoon\, blue moon and lunar eclipse will coincide for a rare and spectacular astronomical feast. \nThe Total Lunar Eclipse on January 31\, 2018 will be exciting.  It happens when the moon is full and passes into the shadow of the earth from the sun. \n  \nA partial shadow begins at 3:48 am (after midnight the 30th).  This is called a penumbra. \n  \nThe total shadow (the umbra) begins to cover the moon at 4:51 and by 5:29 am covers the Full moon.  This is called Totality. \n  \nAs things continue\, the moon comes out of the shadows but the sun will rise at 7:07 am so you will probably not see the complete unshadowing of the moon which happens at 7:27 am. \n  \nSince the moon will have risen at about 4 pm the previous afternoon\,  it will have crossed most of the sky in that 12 or so hours\, so look for it in the west.  A unobstructed view of the western horizon is best. \n  \nDon’t worry about the cold.  I believe there is no such thing as bad weather\, just poorly dressed people. \nWear a warm watch cap to hold heat in\, sweats and winter jacket and gloves.  Sit in a chair close to the ground (so cold air can’t go under you)\, like a beach chair\, and cover you and the chair with a blanket.   \nThanks to Doc Nancy for this information.
