Calaveras Big Trees Association invites you to Winds in the Sequoias featuring The Mother Lode Woodwind Quintet – Janet Telford, flute; Jane Buzzard, oboe; Hank King, clarinet; Bill Minkel, french horn; Gail Buzzard, bassoon; with special guest appearance by soprano, Anne Saunders and pianist, Sue Hart.

When: Saturday May 25, 2013 at 4 pm

This is a rare opportunity to hear selections from 200+ years of chamber wind music in the intimate rustic setting of Jack Knight Hall among the giant redwoods.

Please join us for amazing music, hor d’oeuvres, fine local wines and a SILENT AUCTION with such special items as a private alpenhorn concert at Lake Alpine.

May 1 – May 25 Weekdays 10 – 4 Weekends 9 – 5

Park Activities

Guided Hike: Saturdays at 1 pm. The hike will leave from the Visitor Center.

Park Information

Campsites in the North Grove camp ground are open on a first come first serve basis until May 22 at which time reservations will be required. Please call Reserve America at 1-800-7275 for reservations. Oak Hollow Campground will open on reservation May 22 for the season.

Seminars

Seminars for the 2012 season have been completed. Thanks to all who came and participated. We hope you enjoyed them as much as we enjoyed hosting them.

The Seminars for 2013 are in the planning stages. Topics include Dendrochronolgy ” the science of dating events and variations in environment in former periods by comparative study of growth rings in trees”; photography; carnivores; and David Douglas. Please check back for more details.

All Seminars will be held in Jack Knight Hall at Calaveras Big Trees State Park from 10:00 am-12 noon Admission to the Park is $8 per car.

The seminars are free and open to the public. Pack a lunch, bring the family and plan on spending the day among the Giant Sequoias. For more information call Calaveras Big Trees Association at 795-3840 for more information.

In light of recent news reports about the State Department of Parks and Recreation and the resignation of Ruth Coleman, the CBTA Board would like to reassure everyone that all donations, membership fees, revenues from fundraising, etc. that are given to CBTA stay in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. None of these funds go to the State general fund. Be assured that your generous support is protected and greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact the office at (209) 795-3840.

Visitor Center Hours and Programs

The hours for the Visitor Center are Weekdays - 9 am - 5 pm; Weekends 9 am – 6 pm

Junior Cubs and Ranger programs will be held daily at 10 am behind the Visitor Center throughout the summer.

Creek Critters is held every Tuesday at 1 pm. Meet at Beaver Creek Picnic Area

Campfires are held Friday, Saturday, most Mondays and Wednesday at 8:30 pm

North Grove hikes are being held daily beginning at 1 pm. Meet in front of the Visitor Center.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park will be open December 17 through January 1, 2012 daily from 11:00 to 3:00.

The Visitor Center will be open Daily December 17 through January 1 from 11:00 – 3:00.

The Warming Hut will be open December 24 through January 1 11:00 – 4:00.

After January 1,tThe Visitor Center and Wrming Hut will be open on weekends only.

There will be a guided hike on Saturdays at 1:00 pm. Please meet at the Warming Hut and wear appropriate shoes and clothing. It can be cool.
